This summer, hundreds of thousands of tourists will visit Cape Town, stroll around the Waterfront and other tourist attractions, and wonder what all the ‘crime is out of control’ fuss was about.

This summer, those tourists also won’t visit Cape Town’s worst crime-affected areas. Why would they, when Nyanga has been dubbed South Africa’s murder capital?

Bloomberg recently spoke to residents of Nyanga about their daily struggles, and now a video has emerged showing a terrifying public execution at the Shell garage close to the Nyanga terminus.

The video, shared by the South African, simply says “Another recent incident in Nyanga garage”.

Yes, another.

The South African did reach out to the SAPS for comment on where they are with the investigation on this, but have yet to receive an official response.

The fact that these criminals operate with such impunity is perhaps the most frightening thing of all.
