Capetonians who live on the mountain are used to the idea that at some point during summer, there will probably be a fire.
For the unlucky ones, that means evacuating your home and hoping the firefighters get the blaze under control before it reaches your house.
The residents of La Paz in Bolivia, living on the city’s outskirts, were faced with a similar problem recently – although instead of fire, they were confronted with waves of dirt.
According to the Irish Times, over a dozen houses have been destroyed after a landslide in a hilly suburban area.
The houses were gone in a matter of minutes:
When it became clear that the collapse was going to happen, authorities cleared the area.
So nobody was hurt.
There’s that, at least.
