There’s never been a better time to be a Springbok.

Over the next few days, the squad will tour the country in a series of open-top bus parades, but South Africans will never forget the feeling that came with winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Just look at how the likes of Joel Stansky and Francois Pienaar are still idolised, and you realise how big such a win is for each member of that squad.

The sponsorship deals and bonuses and lucrative overseas contracts will follow, and so too does the chance to capitalise on an increased interest in the Springboks’ social media posts.

How much are they worth? Here’s Business Insider SA:

The Springbok team will be able to charge between 20% to 30% more for sponsored posts on their social media channels after their World Cup Rugby win, brand analysts at a Cape Town advertising agency say.

Before the World Cup the national rugby team could charge advertisers between R30,000 and R35,000 for a Tweet, between R25,000 and R30,000 per Instagram post, and R40,000 and R45,000 for each Facebook post, Kirsten Dewar, managing director of advertising agency Platinum Seed says.

With the surge in popularity after they won the tournament, the team can now get up to R45,500 per tweet, R39,000 per Instagram post, and R58,500 per Facebook post.

“However, this will be short-lived as the hype wears off,” Dewar told Business Insider South Africa.

Don’t worry, we’ll do what we can to ensure that hype takes quite some time to die off.

By the way, if you want to chat directly with 2007 World Cup winner John Smit, you can do so on TIMON right now. It will only set you back R250 for a three-minute voice chat, or six minutes of text chat. I’d suggest the former, just to hear the joy in his voice.

Faf de Klerk has already proven to be the ultimate budgie smuggler influencer, with those undies selling out in a hurry, and Dewar says that the scrumhalf, along with Siya Kolisi and Cheslin Kolbe, saw the biggest growth in their personal brands.

Our skipper now sits at 372 000 Instagram followers (at the time of writing), Faf at 241 000, and Cheslin at 258 000.

I bet those DMs are flying in, too.

Whilst we usually poke fun at influencers, we can make an exception this time. Rake it in, Bokke.
