Nine days after the fact and it’s still not any less satisfying to remember our World Cup final dismantling of the English.
Whilst the Springboks have been touring the country, showing off the William Webb Ellis trophy, two fine minds have been picking apart how and why we managed to beat a team that had humbled the mighty All Blacks a week earlier.
First up is Oom Rugby, writing for SA Rugby Mag, with 10 things you might have missed. I won’t go into detail, other than to say Oom Rugby begins by saying “apologies for my English, it is my third language after Rugby and Afrikaans”.
His analysis really is worth a read, so get stuck in here.
The second fine mind is that of Squidge Rugby, a 24-year-old fan and YouTuber who has amassed a huge following with his blend of tactical nous and humour.
He made fans wait a good week for his analysis of the final, but it’s worth taking the time to watch his full video.
On the flip side, if you insist on choosing, watch the passage from around the 17:30 mark, describing our tactical prowess, and then enjoy another look at Cheslin’s try from the 28:20 mark.
How much longer can we continue to talk about this match, and this tournament, and this team? 12 years, if you go by history, although we’ll never forget the moment they cut to the footage of the person engraving South Africa’s name as the 2019 world champions.
