We are not suggesting you should do this, before you get your undergarments in a twist.

If you do go down this route, there is the option to reconsider your actions before it’s too late, as the case of Lana Clayton shows us.

She has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with a food or drug, after giving her husband Steven drinks laced with Visine, a brand of eye drops, over a consecutive three-day period in June 2018.

According to Lana, she never meant to kill Steven, but merely wanted to make a man she alleges was abusive towards her “uncomfortable”.

The 53-year-old has now been sentenced to 25 years in prison, reports Sky News:

She had initially been charged with murder but accepted a plea deal.

In court, Clayton’s lawyers said she was a good person who had worked as a nurse for soldiers – but added that she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after being abused in the past…

Prosecutors claimed Clayton [above] had known that the Visine would kill her husband, and alleged she had destroyed his will in order to inherit his money.

Addressing Clayton in court, Judge Paul Burch said: “How can you maintain you did this to teach him a lesson, when it is obvious from the facts that you let him suffer for three days? You ignored him.”

When Steven died, Lana first told police that he had suffered from vertigo and fallen down the stairs in their South Carolina home.

Autopsy results then showed a high dose of tetrahydrozoline in his body, and foul play was suspected.

The two also had a volatile history together. Here’s the New York Post:

Lana, who was Steven’s seventh wife, tried to kill herself before her arrest by taking pills and turning on the gas in the stove. She left a suicide note.

Two years before the poisoning, in May 2016, Clayton had shot her hubby in the back of the head with the crossbow, telling cops at the time that it was an accident.

In 2010, she’d written in a Facebook post that Steven had been unfaithful.

Thanks to her plea deal, Lana was spared the death penalty.
