Jobs are in short supply in South Africa, and unless you already have a foot in the door, finding a new one (or your first one) can be tricky.

The more you know, the better you can prepare, which is where CareerJunction comes in.

The company recently published its up-to-date jobs index, with some interesting insight into which skills are most in-demand in South Africa right now.

While we have nothing on the ‘skills list’ as interesting as ‘acupuncturist’ or ‘naturopath’ (apparently there’s a shortage in Australia), if you have one of these skills or are looking to upskill, knowledge is power.

    Let’s break it down.

The most sought after skills right now are software development, middle/department management, and sales consulting.

When it comes to trending jobs, these are in high demand:

Even if you’re skilled in one of these areas, you’re going to have some competition. The following graphs break down employment according to supply and demand.

The Supply graph represents job seekers, while the demand graph provides a good indication of where the majority of employment takes place.

The IT, business and management and finance sectors are undoubtedly the most sought after sectors, followed by the sales, admin, office and support, architecture and engineering sectors. The supply mostly correlates with the demand but does outweigh the demand in some sectors.

If you’re on the job hunt, good luck.

Let’s hope 2020 is the year it all comes together.
