If you received that bogus Bill Gates ‘spiritual purpose’ letter on WhatsApp, you’re not alone.
That, my friends, was fake news. The letter, titled “What is the Corona/Covid-19 Really Teaching us?”, is really teaching us that people will forward things on before checking if they’re authentic.
It’s a lesson we will learn time and time again during this pandemic, and includes scary voicenotes supposedly from an expert at Groote Schuur Hospital.
Bill Gates did, however, go on CNN to talk about what the future may hold, especially for Americans, as they battle with an outbreak that now has more confirmed cases than any other country on earth.
Do note that this was recorded on Friday, so the numbers quoted below by Gates and the CNN panel will be outdated.
(The US has, at the time of writing, more than 140 000 confirmed cases, according to Worldometers.)
