Protests continue in many areas of the UK, and not just in relation to the worldwide Black Lives Matter demonstrations sparked by the death of George Floyd.

Protesters gathered outside the Palace of Westminster yesterday to decry Turkish action against Kurdish rebels.

This week, Turkey launched a major joint air and ground attack against Kurdish militants over the border in northern Iraq, and Britain has shown support for Turkey.

    More on that, here.

During the protest, PM Boris Johnson tried to leave the Palace of Westminster, at which point one of the demonstrators moved towards his car.

The Independent with what happened next:

The lead car was forced to stop to avoid the protester […] prompting an escort vehicle to shunt into the back of Mr Johnson’s car.

The vehicles then drove off, with a dent clearly visible in the back of the prime minister’s Jaguar.

The whole thing was captured on video:

A Number 10 spokesperson confirmed that the PM was in the car, but was unharmed.

“Yes, that was the PM’s car. I think the video speaks for itself as to what happened. No reports of anybody being injured.”

The protester was detained by police and taken into the Palace of Westminster by officers.

A police spokesperson said that both cars were part of a “security movement”.

“A man, no further details at this time, was arrested at the scene for offences under Section 5 of the Public Order Act and for obstructing the highway. All vehicles were able to drive from the scene.”

So, everyone is fine, and life goes on.
