Welcome to this week’s edition of ‘Meghan and Harry do stuff that isn’t Royal’.

The Royal Family earn money by simply existing and making the occasional appearance at events and charities, so when Meghan and Harry struck out on their own, everyone (and by everyone, I mean people who care, so not really everyone) was keen to see how they would support themselves.

Meghan couldn’t really go back to work in Hollywood, and her attempts to voice a Disney movie didn’t receive great reviews.

So where does that leave them? Harry has given more than a few successful speeches, and so has Meghan, most recently at her old high school.

Problem solved, and unlike speeches of the past, they’re charging now.

The Daily Mail with how much you’d have to cough up to host the Duke and Duchess at your event:

It was revealed the couple could make more than £1 million per speaking engagement with an elite agency used by Michelle and Barack Obama.

New York-based Harry Walker describes itself as ‘the world’s leading speaker’s bureau’ and counts Prince Harry’s environmentalist friend Jane Goodall and Oprah Winfrey among the A-list talent on its roster.

A bit of pocket change, some ‘walking around money’, a little extra for the purse.

Also, please enjoy this video of Oprah falling off the stage at one of her speaking events. She was fine and found it funny, too, so there’s no need to feel guilty.

Oprah aside, The Daily Maverick has more on what this means for the royal couple going forward.

The move is one of the first major steps by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to engage in paid work beyond the British royal family…

The couple’s speaking engagements will focus on issues such as racial justice, gender equity, the environment and mental health, an important topic to Prince Harry who has talked publicly about his struggles with grief following the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

The speaking circuit can be lucrative for high-profile celebrities. Big-name speakers can earn six figures for a single appearance.

They will speak together and individually, but I imagine that the price goes up for the package deal.

I wonder if Archie will join the family business once he’s able to talk?
