Some handshakes are just downright awkward to witness.

Donald Trump loves to prolong the handshake, Obama has ballsed-up a threeway, and it took former New Zealand Prime Minister Sir John Key a good eight years to rectify his shocker at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Then there are handshakes that really hit the sweet spot, and in the case of Joe Feeney and Tom Cook, make both very, very rich.

The lifelong friends made a pact back in 1992, which was sealed with a handshake, that if either ever won the US PowerBall lottery, they would split it down the middle.

28 years later, Tom did just that, and he didn’t forget about his pal. Reporting below via the BBC:

Joe said he was stunned when his friend called to say they were sharing the $22m (£17m) jackpot.

“He called me and I said, ‘are you jerking my bobber?'” said the keen fisherman.

The two men live in the Menomonie area of the US state of Wisconsin.

“Congratulations to Tom, Joe, and their families,” Wisconsin Lottery director Cindy Polzin said in a statement. “The power of friendship and a handshake has paid off. I’m thrilled for them. Their lucky day has arrived.”

“Are you jerking my bobber” is so, so good. For that line alone, Joe deserves half the dosh.

In the case of the US PowerBall, your chances of winning are around one in 292 million. But hey, if you get a friend involved and you both buy tickets every week like these two did, I guess that halves things.

As any good lottery winner should, Tom decided he would retire, and Joe, who is already retired, said he was looking forward to spending more time with family.

When asked about whether he hesitated at all, and thought of keeping the money for himself, Tom said: “a handshake is a handshake, man”.

    True friendship, right there.

    Enjoy the fishing.
