The Leo Prinsloo train rolls on, and South Africa’s latest iteration of Chuck Norris continues to make headlines.

You’ve seen the initial footage, and then the follow-up footage showing that Prinsloo was actually the one chasing the attackers, trying to first drive into them and then ram them off the road.

That’s all well and good, but the man himself says we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that some private security companies are throwing their guards and officers “to the wolves”.

During an interview posted to the Fortis Group’s YouTube channel, Prinsloo outlined why there are so many successful cash-in-transit heists in South Africa.

    This via The Citizen:

“Unfortunately there are companies out there that literally throw their people to the wolves. They appoint them with the bare-minimum qualifications because they are chasing money and profit,” Prinsloo said.

Prinsloo also said that he had been in the security industry for many years but was “sad” over the quality and ability of guards in the industry.

“I’ve seen companies that really don’t care. They send their guys, maybe once a year, for a qualifying shoot, which is not even close enough to get the guy where he needs to be.

“They do not want to spend money on their personnel,” he said.

Underqualified, undertrained, and underpaid – it’s a dangerous combination.

The viral star said those on the frontlines of the industry are fighting a “war”, adding that he lost a colleague last week. He also defended his colleague, Lloyd Mtombeni, against critics:

…Prinsloo slammed “armchair critics and keyboard warriors” for pronouncing on what they would have done differently.

“We just laugh at them [critics],” he said, daring them to stop watching action movies and enter the field.

During the incident, Prinsloo instructed Mtombeni to call the famous Robbie and Josh but Prinsloo says he [Lloyd] was unable to because the assailants had “cellphone scramblers and blockers”.

Prinsloo also praised Lloyd for being calm in the situation, considering it was his first week on the job.

Mtombeni certainly can’t be accused of losing his head, given the circumstances.

Here’s Prinsloo’s interview with Fortis in full:

Fresh from getting the Ozzy Man treatment, a spoof of the incident has also been widely circulated, acted out by East Coast Radio’s Darren Maule and Sky Tshabalala.

Fancy a magic trick amongst the chaos?

I’ll say this for us South Africans – we really will find a way to laugh at just about anything, including the ongoing scourge of cash-in-transit heists.
