The nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards were announced yesterday and they’re full of surprises.

More the “what are they doing here?” kind than the “where’s their nomination?” kind, though.

Honestly, we’re all crying out loud at the fact that Emily In Paris might get an Emmy, a show so “mesmerisingly awful” writes The Guardian, that “when it was nominated for a Golden Globe this year, it caused such a crisis that it almost permanently ended the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as an entity”.

The snubs were just as surprising, with no nomination for the kind of bold, boundary-pushing content that we need to see more of, AKA Small Axe.

Fargo was also somewhat ignored, as well as Tina Fey’s Girls5Eva, which probably deserved a little bit of recognition.

The Undoing might just be the biggest snub (on paper), with only Hugh Grant receiving something:

But that’s probably because, while very clearly designed from the ground up to be as prestigious as possible, it was also very bad and stupid.

Otherwise, most of the content that made the cut plays down the line.

Besides the amazing nomination for best actress going to MJ Rodriguez, who is the first trans woman ever to be nominated in that category.

Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 19 on CBS and Paramount Plus.

Let’s check out the Emmy nominees in a couple of categories, courtesy of Variety.

The production taking the lead with 130 nominations is HBO and HBO Max. Yeah, I lap their shows up big time.
