Using an app on your phone to order takeaways from a favourite restaurant may seem modern. On the other hand, food delivery has been around for a long time.

The First Pizza Was Delivered In 1889

Pizza was first delivered in—where else?—New York City in 1889. In Italy, the delivery was accepted by King Umberto and his wife, Queen Margherita. Pizzeria di Pietro e Basta Cosi is the source of the pie in dispute.

Because of this, the Naples-based pizzeria made sure the royals received a taste of their unique creation. Consequently, chef Raffaele Esposito personally served it to the king and queen when they arrived in the city. Pizza has been around for more than a century, but it’s still a big part of the delivery food business.

Lunch Is Delivered By Dabbawalas In India In The 1890s

Dabbawala, or “one who carries the box,” became popular in colonial India in the 1890s. The dabbawalas carry home-cooked meals straight to employees in boxes collected from them instead of going home for lunch or leaving their workplaces for food.

Since its inception in Mumbai, Dabbawala has expanded to a number of other cities. Dabbawala, on the other hand, has developed through time to stay relevant in the modern world. Today’s workers may place lunch orders through text or an app, saving time and money.

Delivery Of Chinese Cuisine To American Homes Began In 1922

Delivered Chinese cuisine made its American debut in 1922. It is the only establishment on the West Coast cooking and delivering true Chinese cuisine, Kin-Chu said.

Telephones were used by the restaurant to process orders. This is a relatively new technology. Restaurants would deliver as late as 1 a.m. to those who called in an order. Delivery of Chinese cuisine is still popular over a century later, especially during the holidays when other restaurants may choose to shut down.

The Rise Of Home Delivery Of Restaurant Meals Happen In 1950s

A substantial part of the postwar surge in restaurant meal delivery may be attributed to the widespread adoption of television in the 1950s. The idea of having supper from a restaurant at home became commonplace as more and more people had TVs in their homes.

Delivered meals would allow families to come home after a hard day at work and relax with their favourite television shows. Many families found this to be especially useful as the suburbs rose in popularity and the number of cars on the road increased. Cars made it easier for people to order food from their favourite restaurants since they no longer had to live close to them. In order to cash in on the growing popularity of “television dinners,” a number of eateries have created special menus.

The 1960s Saw An Increase In Delivery Speed

Due to the widespread availability of vehicles throughout the 1960s, delivery times decreased. The creators of Domino’s pizza were at the cutting edge of this new trend in pizza.

Clients could count on getting their pizza in 30 minutes or less, according to their new promise. This assurance would subsequently lead to a lawsuit against the firm. Several lawsuits alleged that the 30-minute delivery window was promoting dangerous driving.

    Pizzanet Launched In 1994

When Pizza Hut launched its first web-based meal delivery service in 1994, it was the first of many. Pizzanet was only available to residents in Santa Cruz, California, and not the rest of the nation.

This was an early example of computerized meal delivery. Additionally, it was one of the first public websites on the internet. Pizza is likely to be one of the first things to be sold and bought online because of this.

Food delivery becomes popular in the 2000s.

Food delivery became quite popular in the ’00s. Cellphone food delivery applications have taken over the industry as cellphones have become more widely available. People who don’t want to prepare supper after work but still want food delivered to their workstations might do so with a few clicks on their phones, allowing them to place orders without leaving their seats.

Since the early 2000s, new online ordering system for restaurants have been developed on a regular basis. High-end restaurant takeaway was one of the ways some establishments survived the epidemic.
