The 1960s-era cartoon, The Jetsons, has always been used as a benchmark of what the future might look like, with zany robots and flying vehicles.

Naturally, the Swedish start-up behind a couple of what have been called “flying jet skis” had to share a name with the cartoon family.

Jetson Aerospace has been making a name for itself as the creator of a flying vehicle that is fun for just about anyone to pilot.

The company recently revealed the first sneak peek of their Jetson One eVTOL. It will make its full public debut on June 8 with Prince Albert II of Monaco present to reveal it, reported Flying Mag.

A teaser video shows the build-your-own eVTOL flying over the Tuscan hills, completing its trip with a perfect landing:

Peter Ternstrom, the company’s co-founder and president, referred to the Jetson creation as a “Formula One car for the sky” adding that it is “incredibly fun to fly”.

Apparently, the flight stabilisation system means anyone can become a pilot “in less than five minutes”:

The popularity of the Jetson One is driven in part by the company’s mission to “make everyone a pilot.”

Because of its classification as an ultralight vehicle, no pilot experience is required to fly it. The lightweight aircraft can take you to speeds up to 63 mph, flying you around for around 20 minutes at a time.

Tomasz Patan, co-founder and CTO, elaborated on the company plans:

“Our long-term goal is to democratize flight. We firmly believe the ‘eVTOL’ is the future for mass transportation. We are committed to making this a reality,” [he] said.

    That’s quite the future.

At the moment, Jetson One has gathered thousands of pre-orders around the world. You’re looking at paying $92 000 (around R1,4 million) with a $22 000 (around R340 000) deposit.
