Flinging myself off a cliff wearing a wingsuit, or some of the other extreme forms of adventure we see these days, isn’t for me.

I really enjoy watching others taking risks, though, which is why I’m very excited for the release of HBO’s four-part docuseries, Edge of the Earth.

Sorry, Flat Earthers, you can exit now if you thought this was some crackpot doccie for you.

The docuseries brings us face to face with four epic adventures that push the boundaries of what risk is considered acceptable.

Here’s the official synopsis via WGTC:

A thrilling blend of action-adventure sport, travel journal, and nature documentary, Edge of the Earth follows four groups of elite action-adventure athletes on four unique, never-before-accomplished missions.

Taking place around the globe, within awe-inspiring, undiscovered realms of nature, each installment features a different team of adventurers journeying into the wild to take on incredible endeavors of physical prowess and mental fortitude.

The first episode, titled Into the Void, follows athletes on an expedition to Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska and will air on July 12.

    Let’s see that trailer:

Yes, that is a South African accent you hear. We’ll get to that in a second.

Episode two, Raging Torrent, airs on July 19 and will follow daredevils trying to pull off the first successful traversing of the Chalupas River in Ecuador.

Reaching for the Sky airs on July 26 and will track the “first individual free-climb of a near-impossible free route on Pik Slesov”, known in the west as the Russian Tower, which stands 4 240 metres tall.

To help conquer any fear of heights ahead of that airing, I recommend watching Meru, Free Solo, and The Alpinist.

Finally, The Great Unknown airs on August 2 and features surfers trying to ride the much-vaunted big waves along a remote stretch of our West Coast. That’s where the South African accent comes in.

The series features cutting-edge aerial photography and immersive video so it seems we are in for a treat.
