For a pair of DJs fired from a popular soft-rock radio station in Vancouver, there was no going out with a whimper, but rather a head-bang.

The KiSS Radio 104.9 FM employees played the song ‘Killing in the Name’ by Rage Against the Machine over and over and over and over again, only taking breaks to allow requests from callers for, you guessed it, more Rage.

Repeating the fiery 30-year-old track came shortly after the DJ duo – Kevin Lim and Sonia Sidhu, aka Kevin & Sonia (above) – posted on social media that they were being fired from the station after working there for five years, per Deadline.

Yeah, you’re definitely trying to make a point when you play a metal song with the lyrics “F*ck you, I won’t do what you tell me”.

The point stands even though the offending expletives were muted out for the radio version.

Here’s The Guardian‘s take on the stunt:

By midday, the song had played hundreds of times on Kiss Radio 104.9 FM, prompting online speculation that the singular choice was a protest against layoffs by parent company Rogers Sports and Media.

Industry insiders, however, argued it was a stunt to signal a format change at the station to alternative rock.

Apparently, anyone who called into the station to find out what the hell was happening was met with some person named Apollo telling them he didn’t know what was going on, either:

“I’m not allowed to say. I’m just a guy in a booth, just letting the Rage play over and over,” said Apollo. “What do you think? Do you like it?”

…Apollo told the Guardian that the song was already on when he arrived at work, but couldn’t say exactly when it began. “I don’t know. I should, probably. If you’re writing an article and my boss reads it, I’m gonna get in trouble,” he said.

This reporter answered, “Well, I mean, I think you might get in trouble anyway.”

    “Good point,” he answered.

Kudos to Kevin & Sonia for this epic song protest:
