As we learnt via that infamous blockage in the Suez Canal, when things go wrong in the shipping world, they can go really, really wrong.

Major shipping routes were disrupted for close to a week, at a cost of nearly $10 billion a day, before the Ever Given was finally freed. You can’t put a price on those memes, though.

Even when ships aren’t hemmed in due to what was likely questionable skipper skills, things can still go wrong, and the internet is full of compilations of ship collisions and mistakes.

We’ll refrain from laughing at the misfortune of others while observing four minutes of carnage:

One gets the feeling that sackings were carried out in the wake of these incidents.

The shipping world is complicated enough without container ships destroying cranes and rear-ending other boats, which is why it’s worth calling in the big guns.

Berry & Donaldson, one of South Africa’s largest private-owned logistics companies, has been helping our importers and exporters navigate the labyrinth that is international freighting for over half a century.

If you want things done right, they should be your first port of call.
