Last month, 47 786 vehicles were sold in the country, which includes both passenger and commercial vehicles.

Our global exports fall just short of that, with 41 474 vehicles made on our shores exported to the global market.

These pick-up trucks are sent from Ford’s Silverton assembly plant then shipped to customers in more than 100 markets worldwide. The automaker says it’s its highest export volume for the year, surpassing the 8 595 units exported earlier in June.

The Ranger really is a popular model. In June, the Ranger double-cab Hi-Rider was the only bakkie to feature on AutoTrader’s list of the 10 most popular used cars.

7 014 BMW X3 models also shipped out, as did 6 820 locally-produced Toyota Hiluxes.

Nissan’s 662 exported vehicles comprised 596 Navara models, 65 NP200s, and one Hardbody.
