Music legend and Beatles founding member Paul McCartney recently joined the Rolling Stones in a Los Angeles studio to lay down some groovy basslines for the upcoming new album, with Ringo Starr filling in on drums for Ronnie Wood who recently passed away.

Now read that sentence again and then tell us you didn’t feel an excited shiver run down your spine.

While reports have been swirling around that the remaining two Beatles, both in their 80s, would be adding tracks to the new ‘Stones album, it was all a bit unsure until now. The Rolling Stones’ representative has however now confirmed that the duo would be appearing on their new album. This would be the 31st Rolling Stone album to be released since the band formed in 1962.

That’s 61 years of rockin’ and rollin’!

This is not the first crossover between the two iconic bands. In 1963 McCartney and John Lennon penned the song I wanna be your man, which was subsequently recorded by the Rolling Stones. The song went on to become their first hit single. In 1967, Lennon and McCartney also performed backing vocals on the Stones’ single “We Love You.”

Part-time vampire and honorary pirate, Keith Richards hinted at new music earlier this year in a Twitter post, and it seems he was spot on.

This would be the first album since the death of drummer Ronnie Woods, but Keith Richards confirmed that Woods had laid down some drum tracks for the band before his death.

“Let me put it this way, You haven’t heard the last of Charlie Watts.”

We don’t know about you, but in a world that seems to be eating its own entrails, new music by the Rolling Stones, with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr collaborating, is just what we need as we head into the weekend.

Long live Rock and Roll (and Keith Richards)!
