Look, the effort is appreciated, the energy is stunning, and the men are doing their best, but I’m not going to lie and say it’s not a bit of a cringe-fest.
The Pretoria-based team for Mi7 National Group, a security and emergency medical services provider, made a little music video, lip-syncing their hearts away to the Backstreet Boys.
The classic 90s boy band is coming to South Africa in May this year as a part of their world tour, and clearly, the Mi7 team are beside themselves with excitement.
I say beside themselves because I am not sure they totally knew what they were doing. It’s less a lip-sync and more a situation of gesticulating awkwardly, miming with your mouth and hoping for the best.
You’ll have to head over to the company’s Facebook page to watch the video:
Here are screenshots to show you a little bit of what went down:

There were hip thrusts:

And a strange mock arrest scene:

And then, one of the security dudes lovingly stroked his gun to the words “you are my fire, the one desire”:

This isn’t America, right?
Good Things Guy had all the good things to say:
The team, which focuses on protecting South Africans, has seen some tough stuff so seeing them have some fun while at work is truly heartwarming. They sang along, although sometimes to the wrong lyrics, and we love it.
Again, nice effort guys and gals.
If you haven’t already bagged your tickets, then you won’t be able to see the real Backstreet Boys perform as all tickets are sold out.
