This might not be the biggest news story of the week, but in a country with a notoriously ‘go-slow’ public works department, it’s sometimes good to remember that even the greatest of nations have their share of slapgatte.
A picture is being shared on social media that shows a city road crew in Memphis having apparently painted a line right over a dead raccoon that was lying in the street.
A local resident named Richie Esquivel noticed the raccoon lying next to the road with its new stripe and just had to take a picture of it. The raccoon has now become a posthumous celebrity, as well as a symbol of nafi-ness (no ambition, f**k-all interest).
Esquivel told local media that the animal was maybe there for a few days by the looks of it. “It’s pretty big and hard to miss.”
“It’s kinda sad that they just striped over a dead animal. I would assume they have a street sweeper machine come through before they did a job that big, but who knows.”
Behold taxpayer’s money hard at work.
A spokesperson for the city said that crews will remove the dead critter on Friday morning.
