Last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were called a “Hollywood flop” by The Hollywood Reporter and were branded as “grifters” by a Spotify executive.
Despite the negative press surrounding them, the Sussexes continue to attend industry events and promote their upcoming projects.
The ex-royals were recently seen in Toronto to promote the 2025 Invictus Games, which British-Jamaican socialite Lady Colin Campbell believes was a photo opportunity used as an attempt to preserve their popularity after months of professional woes, Ok! Magazine reported.
“Harry and Meghan are in desperate straits at the moment. They are looking at a very empty diary for the future,” Campbell claimed on GB News.
“Their deal with Netflix is in danger, and it’s either going to be revised tremendously downwards for them, or it’s going to be terminated.”
However, a rep for the Sussexes made it clear that the spouses wouldn’t give up on their goals, per a previous OK! report.
“We’ve heard time and time again that certain opportunities are make or break for the couple. They’re still here,” a rep told an outlet. “They’re still working and pursuing what they believe in, despite constantly being challenged and criticized. This couple will not be broken.”
Meghan certainly isn’t going down easy. She has reportedly been offered her ‘dream role’ in the upcoming Suits spin-off series Suits: Los Angeles and also has another deal to keep her podcast going. Meghan recently announced her Archetypes will return after losing her Spotify deal in 2023.
“I’m proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting,” Meghan said in a statement. “Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought-provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.”
“Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works,” she noted. “I’m so eager to be able to share it soon, and am overjoyed to be joining the Lemonada family.”
Lemonada’s CEO, Jessica Cordova Kramer, celebrated the Duchess of Sussex joining the company’s roster, saying “Meghan’s talent as host, creator and conversationalist is unparalleled and we are thrilled to co-create a new series with her that fosters her approach to creating art that matters”.
As for Harry, well… he seems to have been rejected by his royal family. Prince Harry wanted to join King Charles at Sandringham on his trip to the UK after hearing about his father’s cancer diagnosis. However, Harry was apparently prevented from doing so by palace aides, who reportedly harboured concerns that once he was there, “they’d never get rid of him”.
According to the Sun, Harry was envisioning a prolonged heart-to-heart with his father but found out he had been redirected to a London hotel:
An “insider” told the outlet: “Harry came over to see his father, expecting to go to Sandringham. But instead he was asked to be at Clarence House and was restricted to 30 minutes. The fear was that if he went to Sandringham they would never get rid of him.”
Harry does seem to want to be a part of the family again. He recently told Good Morning America that he hoped Charles’ cancer diagnosis could lead to a “reunifying” of the royal family. Sources also told the Times of London that Harry would be willing to step up for royal duties if he was asked to do so.
This future was thrown to the wind when sources close to Prince William, speaking to the Mirror, said there was a “zero per cent” chance of Harry’s royal return.
Shame.
