A shocking new hijacking and road robbery tactic has emerged on the streets of South Africa, proving how SA criminals will do just about anything to rob you.

Criminals are now apparently stringing rope across the road to snare bikers passing by, making them fall or stop so that they can easily attack them, hijack and rob them.

According to Anti-Crime Activist Yusuf Ambramjee, this is a new modus operandi to watch out for, but according to some comments on his X post, this has been happening for years in some parts of Gauteng.

The South African noted how opportunistic criminals have been known to place spikes, rocks, or clothing to resemble a person on roads with the hope of getting vehicles to stop, at which point they swoop in and rob motorists.

“Together with other law enforcement agencies, the EMPD has received several complaints regarding spikes being strategically placed on the roadways in order to rob innocent motorists of their belongings,” said the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department.

A pattern shows that these criminal tactics are usually meted out on weekends, causing unnecessary accidents and loss of life.

If it isn’t spikes or rocks put in the road to make drivers swerve, break down, or stop, then it is a rope. Try not to drive over anything, folks, and if you do, just keep driving until you’re out of harm’s way.

It is recommended to drive slowly to the nearest garage or police station while contacting the local Traffic Police.
