Two people have been confirmed dead after unknown gunmen opened fire on their Toyota Yaris during broad daylight in Rosmead Avenue in Kenilworth, Cape Town, yesterday.

Pictures of the incident circulated on social media shortly after the incident, which occurred at 13:30, and showed the men’s lifeless bodies inside the vehicle, which was parked between the Spar Centre and Kenilworth Road.

The motive for the killing is still unknown, but speculation is that it may have been gang-related. Emergency services were quickly on the scene while bystanders took videos and pictures.

According to the Life EMS Emergency Medical Service Facebook page, their personnel confirmed that two people had died at the scene, while a third person sustained moderate injuries.

IOL reported that the men were believed to be from Hanover Park, and were involved with the Ghetto gang. Police have confirmed that the murder is being investigated, but as yet there are no further details on the motive for the killings.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the two men, aged 23 and 38, were found dead in their vehicles, while the woman was taken to hospital.

A 16-year-old boy who was also in the vehicle sustained no injuries, Van Wyk said.
