Britney Spears – ahem, sorry, Xila, as she renamed herself not so long ago – has been raising eyebrows again with a few new posts on Instagram where she speaks about being five years old and moving to Mexico.
Now, before we jump to the conclusion that Spears is cooked, I would like to suggest that she is actually on to something psychologically and psychically important and that her well-being is completely intact.
Hear me out: you know how she was brought up under the spotlight and manipulated by the hoards of people ‘working for her’, like her dad and manager, etc. This meant she didn’t have a childhood, essentially. She was not able to grow up normally and experience the very critical ups and downs of girlhood and teenagehood as she was blinded by public opinion and demand for her talents at such a young age – not to mention being completely stripped of her innocence as she was inappropriately overly-sexualised too early on. Shame.
So perhaps there is something very necessary in recapturing those immature moments now, even if she is a full-on adult, with her own kids to boot. Maybe she has unleashed her inner child for the betterment of her adult self.
Or, maybe she is taking the p*ss and trolling us because everyone knows, she has been constantly trolled her whole life. Either way, I do not blame her. I laude her.
So yeah, as Pop Culture reports, rather alarmedly, “the ‘Baby One More Time”’ singer revealed she has fled the US and relocated to Mexico due to “incredibly cruel” paparazzi, while also getting her actual age wrong”.
“It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing like a white Jason mask. It doesn’t even look like me,” Spears, who in 2021 was released from her 13-year conservatorship, said in one video. “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they’ve illustrated me to be in some of it.”

It was supposed to be her 43rd birthday but she claimed, in her sweet baby voice, that she had actually turned five. See:

She said the “extremely mean and cruel” paparazzi are the reason she moved to Mexico, which is on brand for her, but I would probably have understood better if she had said she couldn’t live under Trump’s rule.
Just as her post went up, TMZ obtained photos of the singer landing in Cabo San Lucas on December 2.
A source later told PEOPLE that Spears “jetted off to Mexico with friends” in a private jet” and “treated herself to a fun vacation for her birthday. She loves Mexico and can’t wait to celebrate in the sun.”
Although it remains unclear if Spears has actually relocated to Mexico, her love of the country is well-documented. The singer has celebrated numerous birthdays in Mexico in the past, and even celebrated her 40th birthday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, writing on social media at the time, “I’m so blessed and grateful !!!! Tears of joy today. Thank you for all the b-day wishes !!!! Psss I didn’t even drink the champagne o lie !!!!”
Spears’ 43rd birthday was a big day for the singer for more reasons than just a possible permanent move. Just a day earlier, she was declared legally single seven months after her divorce from Sam Asghari was finalised in Los Angeles on May 2.
Following their June 2022 marriage, the former couple separated in late July 2023, with Asghari filing for divorce in August 2023, citing irreconcilable differences.
