ChatGPT might be changing the world, but in France, it’s eliciting giggles and some frustration as phonetically, “ChatGPT” sounds exactly like the french for: “Cat, I farted.”
According to a Reddit post, ChatGPT is pronounced chat, j’ai pété, which to most ears sounds exactly like you’re telling your kitty you farted.
Now this may depend heavily on how good your French is, and online comments are saying the pronunciation is not close enough, with one insisting:
Potato, pomme de terre, but to South African ears, “Cat, I farted”, and “ChatGPT” sounds pretty much the same in Française. Perhaps we can all just agree it would be best to keep the Dutch out of this linguistic conundrum.
