Five year old boy, Liam (whose surname was not published) is the first to test a prosthetic hand created by a 3D printer. He was unfortunately born with no fingers on his right hand.
Liam’s hand is “powered via cables and return bungees” and will save him the prospect of having fingers transplanted by surgery. Liam’s 3D hand was the brain child of Ivan Owen, a part-time mechanical special effects artisit in Washington and a woodworker from South Africa. Rich Van As collaborated with Owen online to produce Liam’s hand
This technology is not exclusive to Liam, you can download the robohand and make your own. Bazinga!
