This 11-year-old Yemeni girl was supposed to go through with an arranged marriage that her mother had planned. But Nada al-Ahdal had other plans and ran away from her hometown in Yemen. Nada sought protection with her uncle Abdel Salam al-Ahdal who had contributed to Nada’s upbringing.
The story of her maternal aunt’s arranged marriage scared the little girl. Her aunt was married off at 14-years-old, she was abused and subsequently committed suicide.
Nada has reportedly been allowed to stay with her uncle with her parents blessing after talks with the Yemeni family protection authorities.
The video shows Nada speaking out against her arranged marriage and was released by a non-profit press monitoring organisation, the Middle East Research Institute which is based in America. The video soon went viral.
