Remember when we told you about the Ubuntu Edge, the super-smart phone Mark Shuttleworth plans to release that will be more powerful than a desktop computer? No? Well here it is. Anyway, Mark may have set the record for the largest crowdfunding project ever! More than 24,000 generous donors have offered over R117 million in funding for the project. The previous record holder, Pebble Watch had just over R105 million in funding.
The campaign has averaged more than R4 million in donations per day, but it’s still more than R210 million shy of its R327 million funding goal – and there are only 48 hours left! Remember, if you contribute at least R7,400 you will receive a “free” Ubuntu Edge super-smart phone, when they make it.
They used a “fixed funding” plan, which means the funds raised will only be collected if the goal is met – so there’s a good chance 24,000-plus investors will receive a refund.
