It was a distressing weekend for motorsport, with 8 people dying as a monster truck went out of control in Mexico, and this – a horrific crash in Houston, USA – during an IndyCar series grand prix.
According to NYDN:
Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti fractured two vertebrae and broke his right ankle when his car went airborne into a fence Sunday on the last lap of the Grand Prix of Houston. The accident showered debris into the grandstand, injuring 13 fans and an IndyCar Series official.

Franchitti is married to Hollywood actress, Ashley Judd, from whom he recently separated.
SKY News had this to say:
Franchitti’s wife, the actress Ashley Judd, who he separated from earlier this year, tweeted: “Thank you for the prayers for @dariofranchitti I have only clothes on my back & the dogs but that’s all that we need & we are on our way.”
