It features 18 bedrooms, nine reception rooms, 13 bathrooms, a library with a Wedgwood ceiling and a billiard room. The castle was built on the 13th century, on the site of an Anglo-Saxon manor. it was bought by Matthew Cradock, a mayor of Stafford and wealthy merchant, in 1615 and rebuilt as a Jacobean mansion. During the Civil War the Castle was garrisoned by parliamentary forces.
