We’re pretty lucky that humans didn’t live 25 million to 28 million years ago, because scientists have discovered another massive creature that would’ve definitely been one-up on us on the food chain.
Fossils of the Pelagornis sandersi were actually found in 1983, but were hidden in a drawer at the Charleston Museum until study author Daniel Ksepka, a paleontologist then at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, came across them about three decades later.
The extinct mega-bird would’ve had a wingspan of about 6.4 meters long, which must have made it a pretty frightening thing to see in full flight, but awesome nonetheless.
