There have been quite a few reports of new smartphones catching fire and causing damage to people’s property and in some cases even injury to the owners of the phones. This girl woke up to the smell of burning… it was her pillow!
Ariel Tolfree told Fox 4 in Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas her Samsung Galaxy S4 slipped under her pillow as she fell asleep – and she was woken by the smoldering smell.
Samsung told Fox 4 the phone’s battery was a replacement and not a Samsung, and that the company’s user guide warns consumers that if their units are covered by bedding or other material, choked-off airflow could cause a fire.
WCPO are reporting that Samsung have offered to pay to replace all the damaged items including the phone.
Moral of the story: DO NOT go to sleep with your phone in your bed. Lithium-ions do not like to be cuddled.
Honestly, you do not need it THAT close to you while you are sleeping, do you?
