As clever as smartphones are these days, sometimes they struggle to transmit signals through thick concrete walls.
Due to this, Apple has created the iBeacon technology to help solve that problem, providing an indoor solution that uses low-energy Bluetooth connections to transmit messages or prompts directly to a smartphone or tablet, and this could have a multitude of applications:
Many retailers across the US are already planning on implementing the iBeacon technology into stores and retail outlets, along with the potential of airports including them to notify passengers of flight details.
The technology could also be used in homes, with examples including beacons turning on lights in a room as soon as someone with a smartphone enters them, or even open doors when you approach them.
The future is now, people.
