We’ve all heard the saying ‘it ain’t over ’til it’s over’. Well, maybe not University of Oregon steeplechase runner Tanguy Pepiot, who thought he would celebrate his victory at the Pepsi Team Invitational during the home stretch.
The problem, of course, was that Washington runner Meron Simon had other ideas and pinned his ears back to pip Pepiot at the post. Here’s what the defeated Oregun runner had to say, reported in Business Insider:
I thought I was by my self (sic), like, far in front of the second guy. I saw [Simon] on the screen, I tried to pick up, he just got me on the line. I’m not proud of myself right now, but it’s a good lesson for me, I think, not to do this in the future. Next time I’ll just run the whole final stretch and celebrate in the victory lap.
The moment he realises he has botched the whole thing below for your enjoyment.
I think we can safely assume that that is lesson learnt for this young man.
