The Karoo is seeing a lot of action lately. Just the other day the semi-arid wonderland saw off some cult defectives now every major gas company with a drill wants a piece. Companies are lining up to upend most of the Karoo in search of shale gas. Shale gas is the latest “it” gas in the energy game and the Karoo has a lot of it.
Shell, Sasol, Statoil, Chesapeake Energy and international powerhouse Falcon Oil & Gas are all heading for the Karoo in a mad scramble to get their hands on shale gas. It looks like Shell found the gas first so naturally they should get the lion’s share. Then again, Sasol is a local company and said the discovery could be a “game changer” for SA’s energy situation. So I guess they should get in there first. What the hell am I talking about? Take your drills and go play on the highway. Hands off our Karoo!
