When Unpolished Politicians Use Facebook

Here is a tip for becoming a successful politician: When you write newspaper columns criticising your own political party, they will be upset and invite you to a disciplinary. Logging onto Facebook and calling them "dickheads" will only make the situation worse.

Let’s play a game – I will give you three facts about this guy:

The game is you now have to guess why he is no longer going to be president one his country one day. Ready?

  1. His name is Hone Harawira and he is a politician from New Zealand.
  2. He belongs to the Maori Party.
  3. He writes things on his Facebook page when he gets upset.

It all started with a newspaper column last month in which my man Hone said his own party was too wrapped up with National and was supporting anti-Maori policies. This got him into trouble with his party. Obviously.

But instead of saying sorry, he then logged into Facebook and wrote something on his wall that kind of dug the grave a little bit deeper. I’ll let you read it and see if you can spot the exact moment his career went down the toilet: “It looks like these dickheads only have expulsion on their mind, if that’s their plan then we may need to refocus.”

In other news, this group of students from Summer Heights High sends him “much respect!” –
