Bill Gates' billionaire lair is just as extravagant as you'd think, but he still keeps things natural.

Bill Gates, America’s richest man, has a net worth of R78.9 billion. So when it comes to real estate you’d think that it’s pretty extravagant, right? Well, you’d be right. Here are some seriously extravagant facts about it:

It Took Bill Seven Years To Build It

Bill bought it back in 1989 for only $2 million, but over seven years spent an additional $63 million to build in into what it is today. Situated in Medina, Washington the estate is named ‘Xanadu 2.0’ after the fictional home of Charles Foster Kane, the title character of “Citizen Kane.”

Half a million board-feet of lumber was needed

It took 300 construction workers – 100 of whom were electricians – to build the 66 000 square foot house. Also, the lumber was 500-year-old Douglas fir trees.

Someone once paid $35,000 just to tour it

Microsoft holds an auction for charity each year, where employees donate products and services to be bid on. In the past, Gates has donated private tours worth $35 ooo. I mean, come on.

The house has 24 bathrooms, 10 of which are full baths

It’s an “earth-sheltered” house, which means it is built into its surroundings to regulate temperature more efficiently. It also has a trampoline room with a 20 foot ceiling and includes a sauna, steam room, and separate men’s and women’s locker rooms.

There’s an enormous reception hall that can accommodate up to 200 guests  and is 2 300 square feet. 

There are six kitchens.

The pool also has its own underwater music system.

You see that brown building in the pic above? That’s the 3 900 square foot pool house with a locker room that has four showers and two baths. If you go for a swim, you can swim underneath a glass wall to come up to a terrace area on the outside.

You can change the artwork on the walls with just the touch of a button.

Around the house there is about $80 000 worth of computers screen. They’re connected to devices worth $150 000 which have stored paintings and photographs which allow anyone to change according to their personal preference.

A high-tech sensor system helps guests monitor a room’s climate and lighting

Once you enter the house, you are given a pin to access the system, allowing you to choose your preferred temperature and lightning preference. As you move throughout the home, your preferences stay with you. Fancy that. Allows, there are speakers behind the wallpaper which also play music you choose and follows from room to room, too.
