Over the weekend, whispers of terror attacks on South African malls (thanks to the presence of Americans) traveled through the vines.
To many, the news was shocking and had them wondering why this had suddenly sprung about, proving just how short-serving memories are these days.
We had a similar warning in September last year.
Although threats of these kinds of attacks have been heard of before, several malls have taken solid action by reviewing their security plans when the US Embassy confirmed they were for real this time.
While Sandton City, Eastgate and Menlyn malls in Gauteng have confirmed they have implemented additional security, EWN reports on our own V&A Waterfront:
Waterfront security meets regularly and cooperates with Saps and regional intelligence. In response to the notification issued by the US Embassy yesterday, Saps has increased their presence at the V&A Waterfront.
The US diplomatic mission to SA says it’s cooperating with local authorities to investigate matters further.
