Interesting Read: Airline Ticket Prices In South Africa Compared To The Rest Of The World

Ever wondered how much you are paying for flights to travel in and out of South Africa compared to other countries? Well, you'll be surprised.

Booking flights in, out, and around South Africa does not come cheap – especially using the ever-fluctuating measly rand to pay for them.

But how do the prices of our flights compare to other countries around the world?

Well, not too badly, actually.

An international online travel agency has published data showing both the cheapest and most expensive flight costs coming out of countries around the world.

Assessing more than one million international and domestic journeys across the world, the travel agency’s 2016 Aviation Price Index found the following information, according to BusinessTech:

  • The least expensive country, India, averaged a flight cost of $3.25 (R46) per 100km of travel.
  • The UAE calculated at a cost over 30 times higher, at $105.71 (R1,487,50) per 100km of travel.
  • The average low-cost airline domestic trip amounted to $5.69 (R80) per 100km of travel, substantially less than the average domestic price offered by legacy airline, SAA – $9.94 (R140).
  • South Africa ranked in seventh position [on the least expensive list], with an average flight cost of US$7.33  (R103) per 100km of travel, factoring in both domestic and international journeys.

That’s not too bad, huh? At least we can have ways and means of finding the cheapest of those “cheap” flights.

Here are the top ten countries on either side of the ranking in order:
