A team of researchers led by professor Richard Freund of the University of Hartford claim to have found Atlantis in Doñana, north of Cadiz, Spain. What makes this hack discovery different is the multi-ringed layout of the site, which fits the account offered by Plato, apparently.
Now, I love a good ancient secret civilization as much as the next guy, and the idea of a whole city swamped by massive flooding is very topical right now, but I’ve been burnt by too many awful History Channel specials to buy into just any old Atlantis discovery.
Granted, Freund and company make some pretty bold claims which they plan to back up – they’ll be unveiling the findings on the National Geographic Channel on the 15th of March, but so help me god if they conclude with another ‘oh but really Atlantis was just a myth invented by Plato’ there will be hell to pay.
