At long last, Microsoft has taken their iPod-but-worse MP3 player, the Zune, out behind the shed with a shotgun. Microsoft announced that they would stop making new versions of the music/video player due to “tepid demand.”
This isn’t to suggest that Microsoft is giving up altogether – the company has voiced the intention to continue supporting the devices currently in existence, but will focus the majority of its attention on “the strength of the entire Zune ecosystem across Microsoft platforms,” which means nothing to me but apparently refers to Xbox 260 and Windows Phone 7 interactivity.
