A 52 year old woman was arrested in the middle-class suburb of Kenilworth, Cape Town, for dealing in drugs on Monday. She is not alone in her entrepreneurial endeavors. It seems a growing number of grannies are entering the underworld and deceiving the greater public of their criminal tendencies and old-person appearances.
26 000 Mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of between R780 000 and R1 million were confiscated by officers at her home, police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut told the media.
That’s not all!
The geriatric flogger then led officers to another house in Kenilworth that belonged to her. There they found roughly 3kg of tik, with an estimated value of R900 000, as well as a whopping 300 000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of between R9 million and R12 million. Oh yes, they also found R3,5 million stash in cash.
A 74 year-old grandmother was arrested last year in a sting operation at her home in Kraaifontein. Police spokesman Captain Gerhard Niemand said she was retailing tik from her home, too.
In addition Niemand mentioned arresting an 82 year old woman for tik possession.
According to the police, last year also saw the arrest of an experienced 52 year old granny-grower in Somerset West:
During the search, the police discovered a sealed room with dagga plants and equipment. They seized the equipment, computers, air conditioners, lights and dagga plants.
So how well do you know your granny?
