If your Tinder profile includes a photograph of you sitting next to a tiger, one that was probably taken in an Asian country during your journey of self-discovery, your chances of possible hookups will soon be on the decrease.
This comes after a PETA-influenced call from Tinder itself.
The dating app’s latest request asks members of its community to remove any photos of peeps posing with the big cats due to their exploitative nature – and if that fails, it has asked users to swipe left and reject that potential partner.
PETA penned a letter to Tinder “arguing that the practice is not only cruel because they require tigers to be caged, tied down or drugged in order to take a photo, but also dangerous for humans who might risk snapping a selfie with the animal in hopes of impressing a potential match,” reports TIME.
Unfortunately, tiger selfies have long been popular on dating apps, inspiring Instagram accounts like tinderguyswithtigers:

Tinder announced the decision in a blog post:
“It’s time for the tiger selfies to go. More often than not, these photos take advantage of beautiful creatures that have been torn from their natural environment.
“Wild animals deserve to live in the wild. PETA says now is the time to rid the platform of tiger photos in honor [sic] of International Tiger Day on Saturday July 29th, and we could not agree more.”
While PETA asked Tinder to straight-up ban tiger selfies, Tinder hasn’t yet gone that far, but did pledge to donate $10 000 (R132 000) to Project Cat.
