Cars: These Are the Top SUVs On The Market In SA Right Now

This list gives us a good idea of what South Africans are buying, and which brands are leading the pack at the moment.

Buying a car is usually a pretty important decision, and not one that people take lightly.

It’s also the kind of thing that people are willing to invest a bit more in because it has to last, and forking out dosh constantly to fix some or other part is one of life’s great frustrations.

In short, South Africans usually do their homework on this front.

Online motoring portal Cars.co.za recently announced the semi-finalists of the 2019/20 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards, and this list gives us a good idea of what South Africans are buying, and which brands are leading the pack at the moment.

If SUVs are your thing, BusinessTech compiled a list of the top models in South Africa right now based on those semi-finalists.

This qualifier before we carry on:

All vehicles available on the South African market on September 1, 2019, were eligible, not only new products that were launched during the past 12 months.

Right, let’s see these wheels, then…

Executive SUV

  • Volvo XC60 D5 R-Design
  • Audi Q5 40 TDI Sport quattro
  • BMW X3 xDrive20d M-Sport
  • Range Rover Evoque D180 R-Dynamic SE
  • Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d AMG-Line

Adventure SUV

  • Ford Everest 2.0 Bi-Turbo 4WD Limited
  • Haval H9 Luxury
  • Isuzu M-UX 3.0 4WD
  • Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.4 D4 4×4
  • Toyota Fortuner 2.8GD-6 4×4 Auto

Premium SUV

  • Audi Q8 55 TFSI Quattro
  • BMW X5 xDrive30d M-Sport
  • Range Rover Velar D300 R-Dynamic HSE
  • Mercedes-Benz GLE 400d 4Matic AMG-Line
  • Volvo XC90 T8 Twin-Engine R-Design

Decisions, decisions.

My first decision would be to avoid any vehicle that’s orange, or close to that colour above, but that’s just a personal preference.

If you’re struggling to make up your mind, you could always chat to motor-journo Juliet McGuire on TIMON, where she is available any time for an informed opinion.

After all, it never hurts to get an expert involved when deciding on a new set of wheels.
