Stephen Colbert introduced a little comedy into the coronavirus crisis by broadcasting from his bathtub instead of the studio recently.
Don’t worry, he is wearing his “bathing suit”, or rather, a full tuxedo.
There are some things that can’t be unseen, so we’re grateful for this small mercy.
Mashable noted that Colbert’s humour and encouragement on the special edition of The Lather Show (a riff on The Late Show) was an excellent distraction from the chaos.
Take it away Colbert:
On top of spreading helpful information about slowing the spread of COVID-19, Colbert gave viewers some examples of inspiring thinkers who did some of their best work when holed up at home:
“Now, keep in mind, this is not the first time humanity has had to sequester itself to prevent the spread of infection. Did you know, I just found this out, that Sir Isaac Newton retreated to his home in the countryside when the great plague of 1665 hit London? And it was during that isolation that he discovered calculus and came up with his theory of gravity. And that’s only because his kids were stuck at home whipping apples at each other’s heads.”
Colbert also spoke about Shakespeare, and how he wrote some of his best work while quarantined.
Follow his example and take a nice hot shower – not a bubble bath.
We need to watch that water supply.
