South African War Hero To Receive UK’s Military Cross

One of the highest honours in the UK military is being awarded the Military Cross for bravery in war. Durban's Peter Keogh, 30, has been selected for the award for his courage during a fire-fight in Afghanistan. He'll receive his medal from the Queen of England later this month. Pretty impressive.

One of the highest honours in the UK military is being awarded the Military Cross for bravery in war. Durban’s Peter Keogh, 30, has been selected for the award for his courage during a fire-fight in Afghanistan. He’ll receive his medal from the Queen of England later this month. Pretty impressive.

Peter’s mom and dad are both metro police officers, and his father told the press he believes every boy’s dream is to become a police officer or fireman.  While that’s debatable, nobody has questioned his son’s heroic spirit during an operational tour in Afghanistan, during which he withstood a 90-minute attack with his patrol.

According to the army report, Keogh “drew fire to himself [during the fight] to allow wounded soldiers to be carried away safely, before again dashing through enemy fire to retrieve weapons and equipment left by the insurgents”.
