That image above is another reminder of how wrecked our political system remains.
Like that one friend who insists on communicating via social media, even though they have your phone number and could just WhatsApp (or Telegram) you, this one starts with a tweet.
Last week, Julius Malema reached out to former president Jacob Zuma to ask if he could pop past for a spot of tea.
Zuma, who recently lifted his leg and soiled the Constitution once again, responded in kind, and the tea date was arranged:
Thank you Baba, I will make a plan to arrive, possibly this weekend. I will take it further with your young man @mzwandileMasina for final details. Thank you for accepting my request promptly. It is in the best interest of our country.

Following that, local media fell right into the trap, and breathlessly covered every aspect of the meeting, complete with hashtags, which included Malema’s arrival at Nkandla via helicopter on Friday:

It’s reported that the meeting lasted a full five hours. That’s more than enough time for tea, a splash in the (fire)pool, and some plotting on how to further weaken and undermine our country’s legal and law enforcement institutions.
Malema also departed via chopper, and yes, it was broadcast live on telly:
Speaking to the media following Malema’s departure, the EFF’s national spokesperson, Vuyani Pambo, said the meeting had gone well.

Pambo said there had not been a theme for the meeting put out to the public or media, but the agenda between the former leader of the ANC Youth League and the former ANC and state president was tea…
“The meeting went very well, the tea was nice and sweet, very hot. So you know the practice of having tea is such that it’s a slow process, you can’t just gulp it like you drink other things, so you have to take your time,” was all Pambo would tell the media.
Did anybody ask him about VBS Bank, and the pensioners who lost their life savings so Julius and co could don Gucci and Louis Vuitton?
The DA did ask, via Twitter, who funded the helicopter arrival and tea, and were met with a simple response from the EFF leader:

When pressed about the meeting, President Ramaphosa said “anyone is entitled to have tea with anyone”, and responded to questions about Zuma’s defiance of the Constitutional Court’s ruling by saying “let’s give former president Jacob Zuma time and space to think about this”.
No, let’s not.
I’m sure in due course we will find out more about what the tea entailed, followed by hundreds of headlines about ‘spilling the tea’.
