Turn Off Your ‘Last Seen’ Info On WhatsApp

Hi.

If you’re here, in the year 2021, looking for help turning off your ‘Last Seen’ info on WhatsApp, you’re probably not very tech-savvy.

No judgement, but that’s the truth.

Also, you’ve clearly not made the move to Telegram, which Seth swears by, after switching at the start of the year and never looking back.

There are some that can’t, or won’t, let go, and this one is for you.

Here’s how to turn off your ‘Last Seen’ info on WhatsApp:

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Tap on Settings.
  • From the Settings menu, select Account.
  • Next, tap on Privacy.
  • Choose Last Seen from the list of options.
  • In the pop-up window, choose Nobody.

Voila, and just like that, nobody will be able to see when last you opened WhatsApp.

There is also the option to turn off ‘Read Receipts’, which is to say messages sent your way won’t be ‘blue ticked’ once you have read them.

On the flip side, you also won’t be able to see when somebody has read the messages you sent, but that’s the price one must pay.

The process is identical to what happened above, with one switch at the end:

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Tap on Settings.
  • From the Settings menu, select Account.
  • Next, tap on Privacy.
  • Scroll down to Read Receipts and toggle the option off

Now you can read a message, without the guilt of feeling like you need to reply right away, because the person on the other end won’t know you read it.

Read receipts are always sent for group chats, though, so you can’t avoid that.

There is still no way to turn off WhatsApp letting everyone know you’re online or typing, so even if you have ‘Last Seen’ disabled, you can still get caught out on this front.

There you go – now you know.
