Over the past couple of days, CCTV footage of a taxi driver (number plate: DHK506FS) from Bloemfontein assaulting a pedestrian went viral. Aggrey Mojanaga has since been arrested and appeared in court. Hooray, right? No. He has been released and is on the streets again, scot-free.
Why? Let’s hear from police spokesman Warrant Officer Zweli Mohobeleli:
The case was provisionally withdrawn because the prosecution could not link the accused to the case. There is a possibility the case will be reopened.
No evidence… Let me have a think…no, I can’t think of any either.
Now, if only we had CCTV footage of the incident and a couple of witnesses who were there when it happened. Or perhaps a means of finding out who the driver of the taxi with the number plate DHK506FS was at the time.
If only…
